                      Major (Rtd.) Mahmoud D. Lantei  Lamptey                                              (1926-1992)

 

Was born on the 26th September, 1926.  He

attended Accra Royal School, James Town from

1932 to 1942. He  was an outstanding athelete. He

became  an Islamic scholar after studying in Nigeria,

Tunis, Cairo, Khartoum and Mecca  where he re-

mained for several years.

 He joined the Ghana Army in 1960 as a 2nd Lieutenant

 and eventually became the Army's Chief Imam retiring

in 1980 as a Major. He then left for Nigeria briefly

before finally taking permanent  residence in Cotonou,

Benin Republic.

He was rushed from Cotonou on the 6th of October 1992

to the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital in Accra where he died

 four days later on the 10th of October, 1992.

  He had twelve children.
